Mexico's Drug War

I'm assuming the violence going on in Mexico because of the drug cartels is common knowledge, but who knows, maybe this is the first you've heard. The recent post on The Boston Globe's "The Big Picture" was very compelling and I thought I would share it here. I have also embedded part 1 of VBS's story on "Alarma!". VBS's description-"Alarma! magazine catalogs crime and violence in Mexico City, a town where a cop is killed almost everyday." (WARNING-EXTREMELY GRAPHIC SCENES)

Next time you light up a joint (if you're into that) consider where it came from. Even if it came from within Canada, chances are the people producing it aren't people you want to hang out with. Check out this article on the B.C. drug trade.

  1. Hm. That Alarma! thing is weird. But, I suppose all the gore is a decent deterrent... or at least, that's what they're going for.

  2. Did you watch the whole thing? Alarma is "good" in that it documents things that people want to ignore, but at the same time I think its main reason for existence is so people who like looking at gore can get off...

  3. I haven't watched the video yet, but I will.

There is a very simple way to elminate all the problems that illegal drugs cause... legalize it all. That would stop the problems in one fell swoop.

  4. Yeah, I did get the impression that, functionally at least, it's mostly for people who get off on gore, even if that isn't the original intent.

  5. Interesting video. Some of the images are shocking, to say the least. The one with that guy who's head was caved in, with his one eyeball that had popped out, looked almost fake.
